When Something Changes Everything

Hope Can Begin Here

Life can change in an instant.

One phone call.

One diagnosis.

One unexpected loss.

One conversation that changes everything.

Whether you're grieving the loss of someone you love, navigating family estrangement, feeling overwhelmed by stress, facing a medical challenge, or searching for your footing again, there is a way forward.

For more than 30 years, I have had the privilege of walking beside people through some of life's most difficult experiences, helping them rediscover hope, emotional balance, and the strength they already possess.

Words From People I've Worked With Over the years, I have been privileged to walk alongside people facing grief, fear, trauma, loss, and some of life's most difficult changes. Here are a few words they have shared with me.

“I just couldn't fly. I was so afraid, but my honeymoon was coming up, and my fiancée wanted to go to Hawaii. My best man told me about you. I was skeptical, but thought I'd give it a try. Today I am writing to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I had no problem flying to Hawaii, and we had such a good time. Next year we are planning to fly to Alaska.”
— Ted, Whitefish, Montana

“After my dad died, I had so many unsaid issues to deal with. I was completely overwhelmed. Today I am free from all that heavy baggage, and I am looking forward to my future.”
— Loreen, Ashland, Oregon

“I just want to pen a letter to you. I feel so much better. I was drowning in sorrow from the loss of my sweet Frank. But after working with you, my future is brighter, and I am looking for another dog/companion. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
— Debbie, London

“I've hated myself since I was 16, when after an unfortunate automobile accident my best friend died. I didn't think anyone could help, but you did, Joanne, and I will be forever grateful.”
— Dan, Redding, California

I don't believe people are broken. I believe healing begins when we feel truly heard. Sometimes I simply hold hope until those I work with are ready to carry it themselves.

If you're looking for someone to walk beside you with compassion, practical guidance, and hope, I would be honored to do so.

Healing is possible. Hope is real.

Together, we can find your way forward.

How I Can Help

A place to be heard, understood, and supported.

Life can change in ways we never expected. You may be grieving, struggling with family estrangement, overwhelmed by stress, facing a medical challenge, or simply trying to find your footing again.

Grief & Loss

Grief comes in many forms. It may follow the death of someone you love, the loss of a beloved animal, estrangement, divorce, illness, or a life that suddenly looks very different from the one you expected. I offer a compassionate place to talk about what has happened and begin finding your way forward.

Family Estrangement

Support in navigating the grief, confusion, anger, and uncertainty that family estrangement can bring.

Life Changes

Help finding your way forward through retirement, divorce, caregiving, illness, relationship changes, and other major transitions.

Stress & Overwhelm

A safe place to sort through what is happening and find greater calm, clarity, and balance.

Medical Advocacy

Help understanding information, preparing questions, considering your options, and communicating with your healthcare team.

Working Together

My work begins with listening. Sometimes simply having a safe place to talk and feel truly heard is what is needed. At other times, we may use gentle approaches such as EFT, Havening®, mindfulness, and stress-reduction techniques.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), sometimes called tapping, combines focused attention with gentle tapping on specific points on the body. It can help reduce the emotional intensity connected with difficult memories, fears, stress, and overwhelming feelings.

Havening® is a gentle mind-body approach using soothing touch, attention, and simple mental exercises to help reduce the distress associated with difficult experiences and memories.

We don't have to decide ahead of time which approach is right for you. We begin with what is troubling you today and find what feels most helpful for you.

I offer private one-on-one support in person and by Zoom.

Whatever has brought you here, we begin with where you are today.

About Joanne

For more than 30 years, I have worked with people facing some of life’s most difficult experiences—grief, trauma, serious illness, family crisis, and unexpected change.

My years as a Medical Social Worker taught me something I have never forgotten: people are often far more resilient than they realize. Sometimes they simply need someone to believe in them until they can believe in themselves again.

My Approach

My work begins with listening. I offer a compassionate, practical, and personal approach, drawing when helpful on EFT, Havening®, mindfulness, and other tools for healing and resilience.

But techniques are only tools. The relationship comes first.

More Than My Work

Outside of my work and writing, much of my life is spent with my husband, Jim, our dogs, animals, and in the outdoors. Nature continually reminds me that even after difficult times, life can change again.

Sometimes I simply hold hope until those I work with are ready to carry it themselves.

Books & Resources

Words of hope for life's difficult moments.

Every book I have written began with a desire to help someone facing a difficult experience feel understood, supported, and a little less alone.

Through stories, practical tools, and compassionate guidance, my books explore grief, family estrangement, worry, forgiveness, resilience, and the unexpected changes that can reshape our lives.

I hope you find something here that speaks to where you are today.

When Something Changes Everything

How to Heal Your Heart and Rebuild After Life's Hardest Moments

When life changes in an instant, it can leave you wondering how you will ever find your footing again. When Something Changes Everything was written for those moments. Through compassionate guidance, real-life understanding, and practical tools, this book offers a way through grief, loss, family estrangement, illness, trauma, and the unexpected changes that can turn life upside down.

This is not a book about simply “moving on.” It is about finding your way forward—one small step at a time—and discovering that even after life changes everything, healing and hope are still possible.

Estranged Parents’ Guide to Resilience ‍ ‍Achieving a Brighter Future

Family estrangement can leave parents carrying a grief that is difficult for others to understand. There may be unanswered questions, guilt, anger, confusion, and the painful uncertainty of wondering whether the relationship with your child will ever change.

Estranged Parents Guide to Resilience offers compassionate understanding along with practical guidance for navigating this complicated loss. It helps parents begin to separate what they can change from what they cannot, care for themselves without giving up love for their child, and rediscover strength, purpose, and hope.

Reconciliation may happen, or it may not. Either way, your life still matters. This book is about learning how to live it fully again.

Worry Is a Waste of Your Imagination Strategies for a Worry-Free Life

Worry can steal today's peace without changing tomorrow. Worry Is a Waste of Your Imagination offers practical, easy-to-use strategies for quieting an anxious mind, reducing stress, and changing the thought patterns that keep worry alive.

With warmth, humor, and practical tools, this book helps you spend less time imagining what might go wrong—and make more room for calm, confidence, and joy.

Letting Go for Good How to Forgive Yourself, Release Regret and Finally Breathe Again

We cannot change yesterday, but we can change our relationship with it. Letting Go for Good is for anyone who has carried regret, guilt, anger, or old hurts far longer than they ever intended.

With compassion, practical tools, and gentle guidance, this book explores what forgiveness really means—and what it does not mean. It is about learning to release the past without denying what happened, forgive yourself without excusing your mistakes, and stop allowing yesterday to take up so much space in today.

Letting go doesn't mean it didn't matter. It means you are ready to let yourself live again.

Sacred Light

True Stories of Legacy, Peace and Comfort in Hospice Care

Sacred Light grew from my years working with people and families in hospice, during some of life's most tender and meaningful moments.

These true stories are about much more than dying. They are about love, courage, forgiveness, laughter, connection, and the remarkable things people sometimes discover when time becomes precious.

This is a gentle book about the end of life—but even more, it is a book about what matters while we are living.

A Personal Note

Writing has given me another way to walk beside people I may never have the privilege of meeting.

If one of these books brings you comfort, offers a useful tool, helps you see something differently, or simply reminds you that someone understands, then it has done what I hoped it would do.

Thank you for allowing my words to be part of your journey.
